The composers of the School of Notre-Dame of Paris helped lay the foundation for the development of polyphony from about 1160 to 1230. Their groundbreaking music remains shrouded in mystery.
How fast was it sung? How much was improvised? The Contre le Temps vocal ensemble reconstructs this music with medieval polyphony and Plainchant melodies. The members of the quartet met while studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. The name Contre le Temps is taken from historical vocal works and refers to the ensemble's desire to perform this eternal music in an original and timeless way.
