Amsterdam's singer-songwriter VanWyck has a warm, dark alt-folk sound. Her style reminds of Leonard Cohen and Natalie Merchant. She released three albums in three years. Now her fourth is released.
But with her fourth album VanWyck reaches even higher: The Epic Tale of the Stranded Man is a grand narrative about a man who washes up on an island and no longer knows who he is. During the similarly titled theatre concert, VanWyck takes us to that island and teaches us that imagination knows no bounds, that freedom can sometimes be found in very small rooms, and that bravery and vulnerability almost always go hand in hand.
