Mastreechter Staar 140 jaar
The Royal Male Choir "Mastreechter Staar" celebrates its 140th anniversary this year, which is a major milestone. Based in Maastricht, this is the most famous men's choir in the Netherlands and surroundings. In honor of this special anniversary, “De Staar” will give a spectacular lustrum concert this afternoon at this beautiful location in Maastricht.
The program promises to be impressive, with a number of well-known works that you will definitely recognize, and some pieces that you may hear for the first time in your life. Particularly noteworthy is that a work that is rarely performed live, due to its high degree of difficulty, will be performed.
The whole is led by conductor Hennie Ramaekers, who revives the glory of earlier times and combines this with modern works.
Piano virtuoso Michiel Ballhaus will accompany “De Staar” on the grand piano. Because this is a lustrum concert in honor of the 140th anniversary, we have invited a number of special soloists, including the well-known baritone Sef Thissen and our own bass-baritone Bèr Schellings.
