La scala di seta / Il signor Bruschino
Opera Zuid
From ingenious disguises to sneaky dates; love is portrayed as cliché in the double bill La scala di seta / Il signor Bruschino by bel canto grandmaster Gioachino Rossini. The young composer showed his grandiose romantic style for the first time and composed witty, energetic music.
Marcos Darbyshire directs the two one-acts and infuses them with the necessary contemporary humour. For all the sneaky loves and devious schemes create a lot of chaos and laughable commotion. Despite this, in the end, everyone declares love to the right person. A comic 'feel-good' performance not to be missed!
In La scala di seta, Dorvil has secretly married Giulia and quietly climbs a silk ladder every night to see his bride. But Giulia's guardian has other ideas for her future and tries to marry her off. This causes comic twists and turns.
In Il signor Bruschino, Florville uses cunning schemes to get permission himself to marry his beloved Sofia and not Mr Bruschino junior, whom Sofia's guardian has in mind as a marriage partner. Does he succeed?
