Mozart used the drama before a premiere to create an opera! In the brilliant comedy Der Schauspieldirektor, the composer takes a crack at the opera world. Everything has a place in the opera, from rival singers, big egos and hectic rehearsals to arguments on stage.
Mozart was able to use his own experiences. The same goes for director, opera singer and author Christopher Gillet. He wrote the new play and directs Der Schauspieldirektor. A slight tease; 'The curtain rises on a beautiful, seventeenth-century, setting from a nineteenth-century perspective. What comes after... I’ll keep that a secret, that’s part of the fun.' In this new Opera Zuid performance in collaboration with philharmonie zuidnederland, Gillett, together with conductor Enrico Delamboye and a cast full of young talent, brings out the sparkling nimbleness of this funny and inventive score. Of course Mozarts fantastic music takes central stage!
