Cory Henry & The Funk Apostles
High energy mixture of funk, fusion, electronics, soul & jazz
Keyboard master, singer, producer and Grammy-Award winner Cory Henry is coming to Theater aan het Vrijthof on Saturday, April 1. This legendary artist is mainly known from the band Snarky Puppy, but in the meantime is at least as well known under his own name.
He is a driving force of today's jazz scene and has been called the future of jazz. With influences from soul, gospel and electronica, he has managed to develop his own funky sound resulting in an already impressive musical career despite his young age. He has worked with The Roots, Bruce Springsteen, Kirk Franklin, Aretha Franklin and Marcus Miller, among others.
Zara McFarlane
"One of the most beautiful voices in jazz nowadays"
Writteninmusic.com
Multi-award winning singer Zara McFarlane is among the top performers on the contemporary jazz scene. She grew up with R&B and reggae, but eventually developed a love for jazz. Critics often compare the British vocalist to such renowned artists as Erykah Badu and Nina Simone. But what sets McFarlane apart from these singers is her completely unique sound in which she combines jazz, reggae, folk and nu-soul.
She has collaborated with artists such as Shabaka Hutchings, Moses Boyd & Binker Golding and has opened for the likes of Gregory Porter, Dianne Reeves and Gwen McCrae. Inspired by an exploration into her Jamaican roots, she will release her latest album Songs of An Unknown Tongue' in 2020, which was praised by The Guardian and Uncut, among others.
JazzOut Fest Community
JazzOUT Fest Limburg is there for all Limburgers and therefore involving various target groups in the festival is an important goal. We therefore challenge different groups to participate in the educational/social program: JazzOUT Fest Community. In cooperation with local venues and educational partners, a program has been put together for this purpose at various locations. There will be workshops and master classes for amateur and professional musicians and improvisation workshops for school children, for example (under the heading "Musician for a Day"). Jam sessions will also be organized in some cities where professionals and professional students challenge each other musically.
Organisation
The organization of JazzOut Fest Limburg is in the hands of Stichting Intercity Jazz Limburg (StIJL). StIJL wants to translate the jazz characteristics of innovation, communication and improvisation into an inspiring, contemporary and accessible festival for all Limburgers.
