Jah!
BlackBirds | Dalton Jansen
In 2021, Dalton Jansen won ‘Prijs Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht’. Last year, he won ‘The Next!’ Award. He received both for his upcoming piece ‘JAH!’, which will be previewed during the festival.
In JAH!, Dalton shares a story about his two fathers, who both follow the Rastafari movement. They found the strength and positivity in the movement to reflect on their family's colonial history, personal identity and position in society. In the performance, Jansen tries to explore the beauty of the Rastafari movement to free himself from shame and to embrace his roots. Personal yet universal, he delves deeply into his own history and places it in the wider context of society.
The full performance will premiere in June 2024.
