In Fall Introdans brings together works of two of the most important choreographers of today: the British-Bengal Akram Khan and the Flemish-Moroccan Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Their backgrounds may be very different, but they share many similarities. Both are master storytellers and passionate bridge-builders: in their work, they connect diverse cultures, dance styles and art disciplines.
Fall opens with Akram Khan's Kaash, which created an outright sensation at its world premiere in 2002 and brought the choreographer instant world fame with its dazzling mix of Indian kathak dance and contemporary dance.
In the intimate duet Pure, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui explores the theme of purity in a spiritual sense. The female dancer in the duet paints herself with Japanese characters and in this way creates something new, while at the same time destroying the pure. Her partner lovingly erases the painted marks, as if to make the marks that life has left on her disappear.
Fall concludes with Cherkaoui's work of the same name and refers both to the falling and discoloured autumn leaves and to the (dancer's) body's continuous struggle with gravity to the meditative music of Arvo Pärt.
