Opening: Opening Space
Daan Brand & Stephen Shropshire
Opening Space is an exhibition that explores the relational concepts of movement and space. Movement is seen here as the production or transmission of action while space is the expanse in which movement takes place. But what if space were more than just the canvas of movement? What if space itself were seen as action?
This exhibition, on display at the Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof, explores that possibility through photography and film, and tests expectations about how space, through movement, is revealed. In the crease of a fold or the edge of a tear, Opening Space explores the opening of space into and through action – it explores movement as the catalyst that launches that space.
