Breathe
Kalpanarts & Matangi Quartet
Choreographer and artistic director Kalpana Raghuraman and her company bring together Indian dance forms with urban and contemporary dance to create a hybrid dance language. It is characterised by the use of footwork, hand gestures and strong facial expression. Like a heartbeat, fascinating rhythms sound.
The brand new production Breathe is danced by five dancers and accompanied by the famous Matangi Quartet. The guiding principle in Breathe is the concept of freedom. What is freedom? In Breathe, many facets of freedom emerge, such as; breathing room, freedom of movement, spontaneity but also constriction. For this production, Simone Giacomini created a completely new composition and took inspiration from the trance-like work of Simeon ten Holt.
A fascinating musical dance performance about freedom, in honour of the 100th anniversary of composer Simeon ten Holt
