Rachmaninovs Paganini Rapsodie
Philzuid
"An increasingly passionate and exhausting whirlwind of dancers is brought to life and swept along by the waltz." With those words, Maurice Ravel tried to explain to a Dutch journalist what La valse meant to him. Wasn't it about the end of an era, wasn't it a rousing dream about death and decadence? Yes, you can interpret it like that, but above all Ravel brought a brilliant French ode to the Viennese waltz.
This French-oriented program, full of orchestral colors and rousing melodies, is in excellent hands with Philzuid's up-and-coming Taiwanese maestro. With piano grandmaster Denis Kozhukhin in Rachmaninov's devilishly virtuosic Paganini Rhapsody.
