The pianist hits a chord on the right, a bass note on the left, carelessly at first, but increasingly intensely, culminating in: 'Yes, that glowing string melody...'
Rachmaninov's unmistakable Second Piano Concerto. It is etched into our collective memory. 'His playing between spiritual calmth and deep empathy is gripping,' the Washington Post wrote about pianist Boris Giltburg. This piano concert is one of his favorite repertoire pieces. His recording of it even got an honorary place in the Grammophon top 10 'Rachmaninov recordings'. After this piano spectacle, guest conductor Jun Märkl gives wings to Stravinsky's Song of the Nightingale and the thrilling Firebird Suite.
