En Mestre Sef
Harmonie St. Petrus & Paulus Wolder Maastricht
April 2024 marks the one year anniversary of the death of the legendary conductor Sef Pijpers, who died at the age of 94. Harmonie St. Petrus & Paulus Wolder, the last association where Pijpers was chief conductor and which owes him a great debt of gratitude, will pay musical tribute to the Godfather of wind music in Limburg. The program will be conducted by Matty Cilissen.
Music will be interspersed with spoken memories of students, colleagues, friends and with unique film footage of the maestro himself. As a teacher at the Conservatorium of Maastricht in the 1980s and 1990s, he was one of the founders of a great generation of Limburg musicians.
A musical tribute to the Godfather of wind music in Limburg
Before the intermission, the program includes classical works that were close to Sef Pijpers' heart. After the intermission, the emphasis is on light music and vocal soloists' performances. In the sixties and seventies, Pijpers was the founder and long-time conductor of the extremely popular Prom- and Carnival concerts at the Brabants Orkest, where he was horn soloist. Bringing classical music to a wide audience was one of his missions.
