'The Pinkpop of classical music' was how de Limburger used one apt phrase to describe the atmosphere of the previous edition of de Componistendag. This time, music by British composers takes centre stage at this special event in the heart of Maastricht.
World-renowned British conductor Sir Thomas Beecham once remarked that English music is in a state of perpetual promise. That promise will be more than fulfilled on this day. How about chief-conductor Duncan Ward with Holst's impressive The Planets, internationally acclaimed tenor Marc Padmore in Benjamin Britten's Nocturne, the GoYa Quartet with Britain's finest string quartets, and heavenly British choral music that will make you fall silent in Sint Servaasbasiliek. Pianist Kelvin Grout interprets music by English master composers.
De Britse Componistendag is a unique co-production by Theater aan het Vrijthof and philharmonie zuidnederland.
