Whilst working on Island Songs, pianist and composer Julian Schneemann researched music culture in Ireland and Crete. ‘One of the most inspiring experiences as a musician! Ancient, powerful and melodic music exists on those two islands with a fierce intensity unlike anywhere else in the world and I am starting to see more and more how the two are connected.'
Adonis (lute) and Nikos (lyra) Xylouris, two brothers from the most famous music family in Crete, join the ensemble. So do John Joe Kelly (Bodhran) and Emmy Storms (classical violin), who are taking the musical traditions from the wild Ireland with them. Ancient folk music is brought together to create a new sound. For the first time on stage you will hear the musical connection between Crete and Ireland in an evening full of passion, symbiosis and tradition.
This concert is part of the series Zondagklassiekers.
